Cooper & Kowalski Writing Prize Awarded to Taylor Knight and Patrick C. Schmidt

Toledo, OH - Taylor Knight and Patrick C. Schmidt have been named as the co-winners of the 2010 Cooper & Kowalski Writing Award. The award is given annually to the first-year law student of The University of Toledo College of Law who wrote the outstanding brief in the course on appellate advocacy. The winning brief is selected by the College of Law’s legal-writing instructors.

Taylor Knight is shown above receiving the writing prize from Richard Walinski and Margaret Lockhart. Taylor received her undergraduate degree in education, magna cum laude, from The University of Toledo in May 2008.
The other recipient, Patrick C. Schmidt, received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado in May 2005. Patrick will be continuing his legal education at Lewis & Clark College, Northwestern School of Law.
Cooper & Kowalski has always emphasized the importance of excellent writing skills for litigators. Prizewinners receive a cash award and books on legal writing authored by Bryan A. Garner, a nationally-recognized expert on the topic.
